Reports

The Vulnerability Amplified project was a collaborative research effort between The Fruit Basket, Wits University, Pachedu, and the African Center For Migration and Society. The project aimed to gain a better understanding of the challenges faced by LGBTIQ refugees in South Africa.

The project utilized a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative research methods to collect and analyze data. The team conducted surveys and interviews with LGBTIQ refugees, as well as focus group discussions with service providers to explore the experiences of LGBTIQ refugees in South Africa.

The research findings highlighted the significant challenges faced by LGBTIQ refugees, including discrimination, violence, and limited access to healthcare, housing, education, and employment. The study also revealed that LGBTIQ refugees face additional challenges due to their refugee status, such as limited access to documentation, legal protections, and social support.

The project’s findings will be used to inform policy and advocacy efforts aimed at improving the protection and support of LGBTIQ refugees in South Africa. The project’s partners continue to work towards creating a more inclusive environment for LGBTIQ refugees in the country.

Overall, the Vulnerability Amplified project represents an important step towards understanding and addressing the unique challenges faced by LGBTIQ refugees in South Africa.
