The Fruit Basket’s main focus is the Trans, Gender Diverse, and other LGBQ+ Migrants, Asylum Seekers, Refugees, and Displaced Persons in South Africa, but we cater to the whole LGBTQ+ Community at large, we support different issues, depending on the available resources at any given time.

We do research, community engagement, relief work, skills development training, and advocacy. Our programming varies, depending on the resources we have available.

Yes you can, we are always in need of support, and you can let us know how you wish to assist, depending on your expertise and availability. You can fill in the volunteer form on this website and we will contact you as soon as we need your services. Volunteer Now

Our resources are limited but we can assist you, if we are unable to, we can always outsource support from our partners and other institutions that we know to have the resources, and who offer the kind of support you are looking for.

No, you cannot, you can only seek asylum when you are in South Africa physically, you must state your intention to claim asylum at the port of entry and then the officials will give you the instructions you will follow from that point on. We do not offer resettlement, however the UNHCR has a resettlement program, click on the link below to see if you qualify and to also get more information regarding that program and how it works. (link)

We cannot assist with finding employment or job placements, however, we offer skills training to help up-skill our community members to increase their employ-ability, please keep a lookout on our  website and our social media pages for updates. We put out calls for applications when we have such projects coming up. We also share updates from our partner organizations if they have job openings and calls for applications.

We are not legally able to remove you or help you leave your country; we are only able to support you once you arrive in South Africa. However, we can help connect you with organizations in your country that can support and guide you.
