Chakalaka Sessions

We hosted Chakalaka Sessions for the LGBTQI refugee community in an effort to create a sense of community and provide a safe space for individuals to connect, share, and support one another.

The sessions were centered around cooking and sharing meals from different African countries, allowing participants to experience the diverse cultures and cuisines of their fellow community members. In addition to enjoying delicious meals, participants engaged in open and honest conversations about the issues they face on a daily basis as LGBTQI refugees in South Africa.

The Chakalaka Sessions provided a platform for individuals to share their experiences, challenges, and successes, while also finding comfort and support in the company of like-minded individuals. The goal of these sessions was to create a sense of belonging and foster a supportive community that celebrates diversity, laughter, love, and care.

The Chakalaka Sessions aimed to foster a sense of community among LGBTQI refugees by bringing them together to cook and share meals from various African countries, encouraging open conversations about their challenges and successes, and creating a supportive and inclusive environment that celebrates diversity and care.
