Behind The Team
I am Miriam Ocadiz, a Mexican writer, researcher, and activist who is honored to be part of The Fruit Basket. I have had the privilege to access higher education, first to study Literature in my home country, and then International Studies (2015) and a Research Master’s in African Studies (2017) devoted to Hispanic and Lusophone Africa, respectively. Since 2018 I have been a Ph.D. candidate in the project Engaged Scholarship Narratives of Change at the Vrije University Amsterdam, where I focus on the role and responsibility of academia in contributing to the societal inclusion of forced migrants in South Africa. It was in this last degree that I encountered the community of The Fruit Basket in 2022 as we both searched to build mutually reciprocal collaborations. I hope my contribution to this organization leads to more caring and honest relationships between the LGBTQI+ migrant community, the NGO world, academia, and other partners.
